Lesson 1 - KEYBOARD MUSIC

Lesson One PART A

Goal: Learn 5 songs in your first 30 minute lesson.

There are seven sets of notes ranging from A to G on the piano.  The middle three sets of notes are shown on the grand staff, as explained in Lesson 3.  This is because it represents the range of men’s voices on the Bass and women ‘s voices on the Treble. It is simple!  The notes go in alphabetical order from A to G.

The mini keyboard is printed on the pages below and well known melodies are produced in easy-to-read form.  There are eight songs to choose from. You should be able to reach the goal of playing five songs in your first lesson!

MIDDLE C AND F

The center of the piano is Middle C. There are seven sets of 2 black notes and 3 black notes. C is on the left of two black notes, F is on the left of three black notes.

We start with the notes C and F, because the visual pattern is easy to find.

Exercise 1: Find all of the C’s on the keyboard.

Exercise 2: Find all of the F’s on the keyboard.

Lesson 1: Part B

Exercise 3: Play C D E F in four locations on the keyboard.

Exercise 4: Now play C B A in four locations on the keyboard.

Exercise 5: Now Play A B C D E F G in four locations on the keyboard.

Exercise 6: Start on the lowest A on your keyboard and play to the highest note.  Name all         of the notes as you play them.

Amazing!  Great job!  Now you are ready to play your first song.
